CR Solar, Common Questions

CR Solar is listed on the SEAI register for solar PV panel installation in Laois (checked July 2026). Registration can change, so confirm it on the SEAI registered contractor search (https://hes.seai.ie/GrantProcess/ContractorSearch.aspx) before you book.

What areas does CR Solar cover?
CR Solar is based in Laois and takes work across the county, including Portlaoise, Portarlington, Abbeyleix, Mountmellick, Mountrath, Rathdowney and Stradbally. Most installers cover their whole county rather than one town, so it is worth confirming your own address when you call.
Does CR Solar only do solar PV panel installation?
On the SEAI register they are listed for solar PV panel installation. They may well do other work, but solar PV panel installation is the measure their registration covers, so it is the one they can process a grant for.
Should anything be done before the installation?
Insulation comes first on any home energy upgrade. A well-sealed house needs a smaller system and runs at a lower cost, and attic and wall insulation carry SEAI grants of their own. Ask about the fabric of the house when you speak to CR Solar.
What grant can I claim on work by CR Solar?
Grants may be available for eligible homes. SEAI lists support of up to €1,800 for solar panels as of July 2026, and SEAI decides eligibility. Confirm how the application and payment work with CR Solar and with SEAI before any work starts.
The Other Trades a Laois Retrofit Needs
A renewable heating upgrade rarely happens on its own, and the order the work goes in decides what it costs. These are SEAI-registered trades covering Laois on our sister sites, each one worth lining up before the heating work starts rather than after.
- While the scaffolding is up Roofers in Laois If external wall insulation is going on, the scaffolding is already up and paid for. That is the cheapest time to deal with the roof, and solar panels want a sound roof under them.
- Alongside the installation Electricians in Laois A heat pump needs its own supply and isolator, and solar panels need the inverter tied into the consumer unit and the ESB notification handled. Both are electrician work.
SEAI Heat Pump Grant for Work by CR Solar
SEAI support for a heat pump is up to €12,500 (as of July 2026) for eligible homes. Ask CR Solar how the grant application and payment would work for your job, and confirm the details with SEAI before any work starts.
It is worth knowing how the total breaks down before the survey. The heat pump itself carries €6,500, a Renewable Heat Bonus applies where you are replacing an oil, gas, solid fuel or electric storage system, and a further amount goes towards heating system upgrades such as new radiators. Asking for the quote to set those out separately makes the net figure clear rather than leaving it to be worked out later.
